These striking hand fans are beautifully detailed with lavish Japanese traditional motifs of bamboo, mums, geometric designs, parasols, etc. Fans are about 2 1/4 inches.
These fans are called Uchiwa which are rigid, non-folding fans that were brought to Japan from China in the 5th century. At first, uchiwa were used in ritual ceremonies. They were also used by nobles and the Imperial family to shield or hide their faces in public.
